ASRA Introduces "Referee Replay".

SRA Joel Votaw Speaks on Referee Replay

The Arizona State Referee Administration (ASRA) is excited to introduce a new educational program that embodies the open and collaborative vision of our State Referee Administrator, Joel Votaw: Referee Replay!

This isn't about assigning blame or questioning decisions once the game is over. It's about collectively learning, enhancing our understanding, and elevating the quality of soccer throughout our state. The ASRA is embracing an "open book" method, and Referee Replay embodies this by providing a safe, constructive environment where we analyze actual moments from Arizona games, helping everyone become more informed and connected.

What Referee Replay Entails:

  • Authentic clips from actual Arizona matches

  • Detailed, composed explanations of the events, the reasoning behind the decisions (or the "preferred" outcomes according to the Laws of the Game), and essential learning points for referees, coaches, and players.

  • No shaming, no individual criticism, just growth and shared understanding.

  • Concise, easy-to-understand videos (3–6 minutes) uploaded weekly or bi-weekly on YouTube, Instagram Reels, TikTok, and our website.

Everyone Is Invited to Join In!

Have a clip that ignited discussion? A close no-call? A moment where the referee managed things flawlessly? Send it our way!

The more voices and perspectives we gather, the better we all become.

Coaches – this is your opportunity to see how we teach decision-making.

Parents & players – gain insight into why certain calls are made (or not).

Referees – gather tips and feel supported throughout the process.

We’re all on the same team. Let’s learn together, grow together, and continue making Arizona the best place in the country for refereeing and playing.

Stay tuned, the very first Referee Replay is coming soon!
